Dear John,
Here is an update on what’s going on in Congress and the work Bob is doing to serve the people of the 5th District.

1. Bob is opposing the $2 Trillion Democrat Wishlist Spending Bill. As Congress returns to Washington this week, Congressman Good and his team are preparing for consideration of the $2 trillion Biden-Pelosi wishlist spending bill. If passed, it would bring total "COVID-related" spending up to $6 trillion in the past 12 months -- or adding nearly 20% to our national debt.

2. Bob is working to get businesses open and to ensure storm relief efforts are meeting the needs of the community. Bob heard from small business owners in Franklin County about the ongoing economic impacts of COVID restrictions this past Wednesday.

On Saturday, Bob traveled to Brunswick County, Charlotte County, Halifax County, Lunenburg County, and Mecklenburg County to review the extensive ice damage caused by back-to-back storms across the 5th District and to offer any assistance his office can provide to the most severely impacted areas.

3. Bob is opposing Congressional earmark abuse. Bob is fighting against the desire by Democrats in Washington to reinstitute Congressional earmarks. Earmarks are projects that individual members of Congress can request to be funded for their districts in spending bills. Earmarks had been so badly abused by previous Congresses that they were banned. In response to recent news that they may return, Bob cosponsored the Earmark Elimination Act to permanently stop the practice, and Bob cosigned a letter to the House and Senate Appropriations Chairs DeLauro and Leahy opposing restoring the practice of legislating earmarks.

Here are a few more highlights of initiatives Bob supported from the past week alone:

Religious Freedom -- Cosponsored H.R. 837, Free Speech Fairness Act, which would repeal the Johnson Amendment's censorship of 501(c)3 employees, including religious leaders, and restore their First Amendment rights.

Biden Cabinet -- Cosigned a letter to President Biden to rescind Nomination of Beccerra as HHS Sec due to radical stances on abortion, single payer, and religious freedom.

Unspent COVID Funds -- Cosponsored H.Res. 127 which requests a report to Congress from the Biden Administration within 14 days on the $1 trillion in COVID aid already appropriated and not yet spent.

COVID at the Border -- Cosigned a letter to the Departments of Homeland Security and Health and Human Services regarding the current COVID screening policies of migrants crossing our border.

Congressional Pay Raises -- Cosponsored H.R. 823, No Vote, No Raise Act, which eliminates automatic pay raises for members of Congress.

Paris Climate Agreement -- Cosponsored H.R. 395, PARIS Act, which requires President Biden to report to Congress on the cost of rejoining the Paris climate agreement. The legislation would also reassert US sovereignty under the terms of the agreement.
