Last Friday, the US formally rejoined the Paris Agreement, just over four years after Donald Trump declared his intention to abandon it. “It’s an important first step,” writes Sierra Club executive director Michael Brune. “But to meet the agreement’s goal of preventing climate catastrophe, the Biden administration will have to take ambitious climate action here at home, and inspire and enable other countries to do the same.”
How to start? Read on. |

A package of conservation bills that would protect millions of acres of public land, including wilderness, and foster equitable access to nature in California, Colorado, Washington, and Arizona, is expected to come to a vote in the House of Representatives this week. These bills will protect treasured landscapes and natural carbon sinks and support Indigenous Tribes and local economies.

President Biden’s American Rescue Plan will help the country recover from COVID-19 and safely reopen schools. It would deliver immediate economic relief to working families in the form of a $1,400 stimulus check and housing, food, and unemployment assistance for those in need. It supports the communities hit hardest by the virus by helping state and local governments and small businesses.
Tell your members of Congress to support the American Rescue Plan. |

Disposable, single-use products made from fracked gas are filling our waterways and ecosystems. Producing them pollutes nearby communities—especially communities of color—and requires even more of the same fossil fuels that we must keep in the ground to avoid climate catastrophe. Fortunately, with the stroke of a pen, President Biden and his administration can begin to clean up this mess.
Urge President Biden to take these eight key actions to help stop plastic from polluting our planet. |

The For the People Act, also known as H.R. 1, is coming up for a vote in the Senate. The COVID-19 pandemic has made it clear we need the outdoors more than ever, but it's also highlighted the fact that access to the out-of-doors is unequal. Inspiring Connections Outdoors groups across the country have had to find new ways to advance their mission of helping youth (re)discover bonds with nature. Last weekend ICO groups held an outdoors-themed digital film festival featuring short films that examine youth, racial equity, feminism, and other topics, all through the lens of our relationships with the outdoors.
Even in a pandemic, we can inspire connections outdoors. |

February 27 is International Polar Bear Day, and we’re raising money to support the Sierra Club’s work to protect their habitat in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. As a changing climate melts Arctic sea ice, polar bears are losing their homes and their viability as a species. When you donate $39 or more, we’ll send you a cuddly 12-inch plush, acknowledging your symbolic adoption of a polar bear, along with a booklet of polar bear facts and photos.
Please join the effort to protect this magnificent animal. |
