Last month, freezing temperatures, heavy rain and wind in Northwest Syria
forced more than 24,000 displaced people to abandon their shelters after
heavy flooding. Our teams and community partners are helping people
salvage what they can and providing essential supplies.

A mother keeps water and snow away from her tent in a camp in Northwest
Syria, where she lives with her husband and children.
The slow and steady uptick in violence through the autumn of last year
forced families across Idlib to flee and return repeatedly with no
abatement. There is no fixed, permanent safe place for those in this
region. The winter rains and cold on top of all they’ve lost makes every
aspect of life harder.

Since the start of the conflict in Syria 10 years ago, Mercy Corps
partners, communities we work with and donors like you have been committed
to reaching families with lifesaving and life-sustaining support,
including food, protection, shelter, clean water and hygiene supplies —
and we remain committed today.

And Syria is just one of more than 40 countries around the world where our
teams are battling challenges like hunger, disease and lack of shelter:

• In Sudan, where flooding has increased the risk of disease especially
for displaced Ethiopians, Mercy Corps established a health clinic
• In Indonesia, when heavy rain caused multiple flash floods that swept
away entire communities, Mercy Corps provided emergency aid, including
access to clean water
• And in Yemen, when a flood nearly destroyed a camp for people who have
fled their homes, Mercy Corps provided essentials such as vouchers for
food
