Friend,

It might feel like we're already deep in the 2020 election, but we're really just getting started.

We need to gain just four seats to take back the Senate, and I've got my eye on a couple of races across the country that will be pivotal to that goal. As our Democratic presidential candidates spend their time on the trail talking about their big plans and vision for the White House, remember this important point:

We won't make any of that progress if we don't take back the Senate. It's time to end Mitch McConnell's tenure in the majority.

September 30th is our big end-of-quarter FEC filing deadline, and Senate fundraising numbers will become public. The RNC has about $40 million on hand to dump into any race they choose in 2020, and we can't back down from that fight.

I'm excited to tell you a bit more about how you can help in the coming days, but for now let's hit the highlights:

We know that now, more than ever, Iowans need a strong voice in the U.S. Senate -- that voice is Theresa Greenfield. She's fighting for Iowa farmers when President Trump and his Republican colleagues are leaving them behind by raising tariffs, decimating their profits, and ignoring climate change, which is destroying their farms and crops. Her opponent, Senator Joni Ernst, has already said she's preparing for a "full throttle" race -- with President Trump on the ballot too, we need Iowans to know who will have their back in the Senate, and that's Theresa.

Every time we hear something new about Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh -- about his conduct with women, about his bench decisions affecting millions of Americans -- I think of Maine Senator Susan Collins, and how she was the deciding vote that put him on the bench. Sara Gideon wants to represent Maine in the U.S. Senate to bring people together and lift hardworking families, and she's exactly the kind of colleague I need with me to fight for progressive values.

My friend John Hickenlooper knows that flipping the Senate is just as important as getting Donald Trump out of the White House, which is why he jumped in the race to represent Colorado in the U.S. Senate. But the National Republican Senatorial Committee is already playing hard in Colorado by giving incumbent Senator Cory Gardner nearly $45,000 so far, so you know they're playing for keeps. Cory Gardner is one of Donald Trump's favorite senators, so we know this will be a hard-won fight -- but one we have to win.

Lastly -- there's no path to winning the Senate that doesn't include defeating North Carolina Senator Thom Tillis. The Cook Political Report has the North Carolina Senate race shifted in Democrats' direction, but we know Republicans won't go down without a fight: They spent more than $5 million on ads in the special congressional election last month, and there's so much more at stake in this Senate race than that one congressional seat.

I'll reach out with more in the coming days about how you can support Democrats in each of these races, but if you want to get a head start, don't wait -- we know Republicans aren't waiting. Make a contribution to support Democrats in Iowa, Maine, Colorado, and North Carolina Senate races right now.

Sincerely,

Chuck Schumer
