NBC News shared the details of a chilling call from a migrant to 911:
“We can't see anything,” said the caller to the dispatcher in Spanish as others in the background cried for help. “We're inside a tank truck. God, we have no oxygen.”
People are dying as they try to traverse our southern border in search of a better life. Some, like the migrants heard in the audio Telemundo obtained, are captured by human traffickers. Others face potentially fatal dehydration, hypothermia, and hyperthermia -- especially as the border region faces below-freezing temperatures.
President Joe Biden is trying to prevent migrant deaths with his new immigration plan, which aims to transform our immigration system and protect vulnerable migrants.
House Democrats are ready to pass sweeping immigration reform, but the GOP has indicated that they're going all in to shred Biden's immigration proposal and leave migrants defenseless.
