In recent years, the LGBTQ+ community has made enormous progress in the fight for equality.

We all celebrated the historic 2015 Supreme Court case that legalized marriage equality in all 50 states, along with last year's decision declaring that workplace discrimination against members of the LGBTQ+ community is illegal in the United States. These are important steps forward -- but LGBTQ+ Americans should not have to wait on court decisions like these.

Congress needs to outlaw all forms of discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity -- and to make that happen, our first priority should be finally passing the Equality Act, which will explicitly prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity in education, housing, credit, jury service, public accommodations, and more.
