Friend, one death from gun violence is one too many.

That’s why Justin Trudeau and our Liberal government

introduced new legislation last week that moves forward with the strongest measures to combat gun violence that our country has ever seen, and builds on last year’s strong action to ban assault-style weapons in Canada.

But even as we work with provinces, territories, and local governments across Canada to keep our communities safe, Erin O’Toole has promised the gun lobby that he will weaken Canada’s gun laws instead – including to repeal Canada’s assault weapons ban. And now Canadians have learned that the gun lobby is working to return the favour.

Global News is reporting that the National Firearms Association (NFA) “has been preparing since July to run ‘custom attack ads’ against Liberal members of Parliament it hopes to help defeat in the next general election,” with the NFA stating that they are “locked and loaded” in their plans to “give the CPC candidates a leg up”(Global, Feb 21).

Friend, this is not the kind of politics that helps keep Canadians safe. We need to stay ready for whenever Erin O’Toole and his allies work to roll back our progress – and to keep moving forward with concrete action to help protect our communities.

Add your name to support stronger gun control in Canada, and help Justin Trudeau and our Liberal team keep Canada moving forward.
