Black History Month is coming to a close, but we know that our history can't be contained in just 28 days. In Philadelphia alone, we have centuries of Black history to celebrate, revisit, and reflect on 365 days a year.

Philadelphia has been the stomping ground of legendary Black Americans like Billie Holiday, civil rights and women's rights activist Charlotte Forten, philosopher, journalist, and scholar Alain LeRoy Locke and many, many more.

Our city is home to the African American Museum in Philadelphia, our nation's first major museum devoted to Black American history, and historic sites like the Belmont Mansion -- now home to the Underground Railroad Museum. Every street and every building tells a story about the Black men and women who came before us and whose shoulders we stand on today.

Now, Dwight is working to build a stronger Philadelphia, block by block. A place that works for everyone, no matter your zip code, your income, or the color of your skin.

Black History is American History. And it's on we-the-people to pick up the mantle of the Black revolutionaries and changemakers who came before us to keep building a city -- and democracy -- that works for the people.
