John,

COVID-19 has made it impossible to ignore the racial inequities in our country and institutions — including our health care system.

Black and brown people are three times more likely to contract COVID-19 and two times more likely to die from it than white people.

People of color are also disproportionately affected by chronic health conditions, infant mortality, maternal mortality, and police brutality — and are least likely to have insurance to help cover the costs of the care they need .

It’s clear bold policies that confront and dismantle the devastating impact of systemic racism need to be in place. It’s why I, along with Rep. Pressley and Sen. Warren, introduced the Anti-Racism in Public Health Act.

This bill would create two new programs within the CDC to study the health impacts of structural racism and develop anti-racist health policy to reverse disparities that have harmed communities of color for far too long.

Racism is a public health emergency, but with this life-affirming legislation I’m hopeful it will eradicate it from health care, our institutions, and our country.

Will you join me in the fight to eliminate systemic racism by signing your name in support of my Anti-Racism in Public Health Act ? Add your name:
