For an essential worker making $10 an hour, an extra $5 an hour means $200 more every week. Life-changing money for families. Sadly, the Biden White House and Democratic leadership are showing signs of breaking their promise to stand firmly behind a $15 minimum wage. John, money in politics has warped our system by pushing through unpopular but well-funded anti-worker policies that have income inequality, hunger, and right-wing extremism soaring to dangerous levels. Will you pitch in now to stand with workers and help us do everything possible to ensure that the fight for $15 stays right where it already is in the COVID-19 relief bill?
With the Biden administration and corporate-funded "centrists" like Joe Manchin faltering on raising the minimum wage, it is up to the House, and particularly House progressives, to demand Senate action. Progressive Democrats must demand that the House passes the bill this week with the $15 minimum wage intact. This is essential to ensuring that it can pass with 51 votes (including Vice President Harris) in the Senate through a parliamentary process called reconciliation. There can be absolutely no question that the minimum wage hike impacts the budget by reducing food stamps, increasing the costs for services from low-wage federal contractors, and by increasing revenue generated for public services as their incomes increase. The truth is this: Joe Biden and every Democrat in the House and Senate know that there will never be 60 votes to get a stand-alone minimum wage bill on the floor and adopted by the Senate. It is a disgraceful lie to pretend that minimum wage can be hiked some other way. John, can we count on you to pitch in here to help us make sure that Joe Biden and Democratic leadership are held fully accountable if they decide to turn their back on American workers by abandoning the fight for $15?
