John, We must restore faith and confidence in our election system. Unfortunately, House Democrats' number one priority as we begin a new Congress is a massive overhaul that will nationalize our system of elections, make permanent changes that were made in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and create a federal fund to “match” campaign contributions to candidates using your taxpayer dollars. The “For the People Act” as it is deceptively named is nothing short of an attempt to subvert our election system and guarantee Democrat victories and control. With so much on the line, it is no mystery why they have labeled it H.R. 1. In Congress, my first priority is to make sure control of our elections remains where it belongs: at the state-level. Articles 1 and 2 of the Constitution place the States (and more importantly, State Legislatures) in control of determining the time, place, and manner in which Members of Congress and the President can be elected. That is why I opposed H.R. 1 when House Democrats tried to force it through the House in 2019 and why I signed an Amicus Brief asking the Supreme Court to review the constitutional nature of changes made by Governors, Secretaries of State, and Attorney Generals in several states following the 2020 election. The right to manage our system of elections must remain under the control of the States. Efforts to expand federal control over our elections, eliminate even the most basic voter I.D requirements, legalize ballot harvesting nationwide, and direct your hard-earned dollars to candidates without your consent – all of which are included in H.R. 1 - will irreparably erode the foundation of our Republic. I will never support bills like H.R. 1. I will continue to advocate for state control, transparency, and to ensure every lawful vote is counted. Although Democrats maintained control of the House, their majority is the smallest it has been since the 1800s. In the days and months ahead, House Republicans are prepared to do whatever we can to prevent radical legislation like H.R. 1 from becoming law and restoring confidence in our elections. Sincerely, P.S. Please consider helping us prevent this type of radical legislation as we work to take back the House in 2022. We can’t do it alone, and we are always grateful for your support! ‌ ‌ Emmer for Congress | Visit our website Not produced at government expense.
