We’re not out of the woods yet when it comes to Jim Oberweis’ efforts to overturn the 2020 election. It’s been a few weeks since we shared an update with you, so here’s a quick refresher:
FIRST: Jim Oberweis -- the guy Lauren defeated in 2020 -- filed an official election contest with the U.S. House of Representatives, and demanded a new election be held on April 6th of this year.
THEN: Lauren and Team Underwood had a chance to respond, and we asked for the House to dismiss Oberweis’ desperate and false claims.
NOW: On Friday, the House Administration Committee had its first public meeting on this election contest -- and we don’t expect this will be over soon.

Jim Oberweis’ attempts to undermine the will of the voters have moved well beyond political theatre. At first, we thought he was simply taking a page from Donald Trump’s playbook, filing for recounts and “exploring” legal options.
But now, Oberweis is opening the door for any Republican who loses fair and square to mount months-long challenges that are doomed to fail.
And here’s the thing: they know they will fail. Their goal is to threaten and undermine the very fabric of our democracy so voters in the *next* election question its integrity. We must show them this is not acceptable. We will not allow the will of the voters to be undermined.
