UK banks say a lot of good words on climate: but sadly their actions tell quite a different story.
Private banks like HSBC and Barclays give billions to fossil fuel projects that trample on indigenous rights, destroy livelihoods and irreparably damage communities.
The Bank of England could help stop this, but instead they turn a blind eye and continue to funnel public money towards propping up polluting industries. We have to fight to change our system: the change we need won’t come from above.
In this lunchtime learning session, we’ll be joined by organisers from the Pacific and Argentina who are on the frontlines of the fight against UK-financed extractive projects. We’ll also get the chance to speak to organisers from the UK and Europe who are working to stop our system funding climate criminals.
