Have unjust National Security Claims compromised your giving?
Salaam John,
I’m reaching out to you today to get your feedback about a pressing issue in the American Muslim community. Your input is crucial to informing the work
and mission of the Muslim Legal Fund of America, so please take 1 minute today to answer this simple poll. To provide some context...
It has been nearly 20 years since the tragedy of 9/11 transformed this country forever. As families mourned and a nation rose up in fear and anxiety, Muslim citizens and organizations were targeted in the aftermath. The constitutional rights of American citizens came under attack and MLFA stood up to protect those rights and restore this country to the ideals it strove to be founded upon.
But, although we have gained tremendous ground at the federal level over the years, the impact of these violations linger.
Still today, many in our community fear practicing one of the most important elements of our faith: giving charity.
After Muslim nonprofits began to experience increased scrutiny, and the prevalence of unjust National Security claims being lodged against these organizations and the people who support them took rise, a culture of fear was born in the Muslim community. These organizations, whose mission it is to improve the lives of vulnerable people, have suffered a debilitating blow.
Now many of us worry whether a simple donation tofeed an orphanor build a mosque could have us flagged as athreat to National Security.
It is our mission at MLFA to provide the resources and protection American Muslim Nonprofits needs to defend themselves and their supporters against these egregious violations.
Have these concerns affected your charitable giving?
Please take the poll below to help us understand how widely the impact of these unjust National Security claims are truly being felt.
