Across the country, far-right legislators are continuing their efforts to restrict voting rights in the wake of the last presidential election. That’s why we NEED Congress to pass the For The People Act (H.R. 1/S. 1) as soon as possible – it would stop many right-wing attacks on voting in their tracks, and would strengthen our democracy in other critically needed ways.
As both houses of Congress start to make progress on passing legislation this session, we need to ramp up our advocacy for the For The People Act. Our representatives need to know exactly how important it is for them to pass this groundbreaking bill quickly.
Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has voiced strong support for this package of groundbreaking democracy reforms, and both she and Majority Leader Chuck Schumer have signified the importance of the bill by giving it the designation of H.R. 1 and S.1 in the House and Senate, respectively.
We fought hard to get this historic and desperately needed package of reforms to the very top of this Congress’s agenda. Now, on this national day of action, we need to shore up the votes to pass it when it makes it to the House floor in the next week!
