Friend,
When Donald Trump was elected in 2016, we faced a global climate
emergency, brutal economic inequality, deep systemic racism, and a
broken democracy hijacked by corporate power.
And during his disastrous four years in office, these problems didn't go
away. They festered and got worse.
Under Trump, the U.S. squandered years that it couldn't afford to waste
to solve the climate crisis. The gap between rich and poor—which was
already greater than at any time in 100 years—exploded during the
COVID-19 pandemic. The power of corporations was steel-reinforced by a
judiciary packed with far-right Trump appointees.
Now, suddenly, a window of opportunity has opened, allowing us to once
again make real change. Trump is gone, Democrats control the House, and
Mitch McConnell no longer controls the senate.
But as suddenly as the window opened, it could shut again … and the
fierce urgency of now is bearing down on all of us.
This is the moment when Common Dreams is most essential. This is the
time when our mission to inform, inspire, and ignite change is most
needed.
Corporate news outlets like CNN are still obsessed with the Trump
circus, and the right-wing propaganda ecosystem of Fox News and social
media conspiracy theorists aren't even operating in reality.
We are urgently reorienting our newsroom away from four years of
resistance and redoubling our efforts to shine a bright light on the
climate crisis, corporate abuse of power, and economic injustice.
This is our moment, our opportunity for real progressive change. We
can't let it slip away. Will you chip in to Common Dreams today and help
meet our Winter Fundraising Goal by March 2?
