This past Sunday would have been Congressman John Lewis' 81st birthday. A giant of the civil rights movement, Congressman Lewis fought for what ought to be, in America, a simple guarantee: the right to vote.

The truth is that voting rights have been under attack for far too long, and those attacks were in part facilitated by a 2013 Supreme Court ruling that weakened federal protections against voter suppression.

If we're going to root out voter suppression across the country, we MUST start by passing the For the People Act - the first bill in both the Senate and House this Congress. This legislation will restore voting rights and ensure Americans can exercise their constitutional right to vote.

But here's what Congressman Lewis also understood: These tough fights aren't waged or won by a single individual. They take a movement. So today, I'm asking 3,000 members of this grassroots team to sign my petition calling for Congress to pass this crucial voting rights legislation into law.
