We wanted to provide an update on the situation at our country’s Southern
border, friend.

Last week, the first group of asylum seekers affected by the Trump
administration’s MPP — or “Remain in Mexico” program — entered the United States
to wait in safety for their asylum cases to be heard. This is an important step
in providing asylum seekers the justice and due process they were denied for the
last two years.

We applaud the Biden administration’s work to undo MPP, but the situation for
asylum seekers remains precarious. Tens of thousands of people continue to wait
in Mexico for their asylum cases to proceed, and they are facing violent crime
and economic hardship. Asylum seekers’ lives are at stake right now, and urgent
action is required. HIAS is actively working with agencies like UNHCR to help
those affected by MPP and facilitate their long-overdue entry into the U.S., and
we are providing community education services and legal support all along the
border to help people better understand the asylum process and advocate for
themselves.

Please, friend, we rely on committed supporters like you
to carry out this vital work, so we’re reaching out today: If you’re in a position to help, will you make a contribution of
$18 or more right now to support our work helping asylum
seekers and refugees build new lives safe from danger and persecution?

Even asylum seekers permitted to enter the U.S. must navigate a lengthy and
confusing legal process. Legal support is often the difference between a
successful application for asylum and one that is denied, yet most asylum
seekers do not have the means to solicit it for themselves. That’s why HIAS is
working to provide asylum seekers with the support they need to file successful
claims, and urging authorities to prioritize those most in need.

Providing a safe haven for refugees is a shared Jewish and American value, and
HIAS is ready to do everything we can to help people fleeing unimaginable
violence in search of a better life. But this crucial work requires considerable
resources. Today, we’re urgently asking supporters like you to rush a donation
to help HIAS support asylum seekers and refugees in their search for safety and
freedom:

If you possibly can, please make a contribution of $18 or
more right now to help asylum seekers and refugees in need of our support.
