Hi John,

First and foremost, if you or a loved one has been impacted by the devastating winter storms in Texas and other states, please know that our team at the IRC is thinking about you — and all of our clients and supporters in the affected areas.

I wanted to reach out with an update about the winter storm in Texas and the IRC's emergency response.

The impact of this storm on people in Texas is immense — millions lost heat and electricity — but refugees and asylum seekers who are settling into their newly adopted communities face additional and unique challenges.

In normal times, IRC offices in Abilene and Dallas help provide opportunities for refugees, asylees, victims of human trafficking, survivors of torture, and other immigrants to thrive in America. For example, we ensure children are enrolled in school and that adults become self-reliant through employment or starting businesses.

When the crisis hit, our staff pivoted quickly to provide emergency assistance. Our teams in Abilene and Dallas have been checking in with refugees and asylum seekers and helping them reach warm and safe places. They are also passing along local safety and public health guidelines and resources, providing interpreters to clients who need them.

We are inspired and humbled by the dedication of IRC staff and other Texans who are going to great lengths to help keep refugees safe. One of our colleagues even spent her first day on the job helping get refugees to shelters to stay warm.

This winter storm has devastated many communities in Texas — and around the world the most vulnerable families have been affected by winter's wrath. Just last week, brutal winter storms blanketed parts of Syria, Lebanon and Jordan with heavy snow.

John: You can make an urgent donation today to help us provide winter supplies, emergency medical care and other vital aid to refugee families around the world.

With your support, the IRC can continue to help refugees and displaced families — in some of the world's toughest places — this winter and throughout the year. Together, we can ensure they are safe, warm, and have the resources needed to survive and rebuild their lives.

Thank you for your concern and compassion — and stay safe.
