I wanted to make sure you saw Jenn’s recent article in Elle. In it, she vulnerably expresses how her life experiences ground her determination to represent all Virginians as the Commonwealth’s next – and first Black woman – Governor.
She gives voice to life or death decisions like whether to pay the mortgage or your loved one’s prescription bill because you can’t afford both. She then describes in detail her pregnancy experience, the pain she suffered, and how that pain was ignored.
Her strength throughout that process, and in sharing her story on such a public platform, continues to affirm why I know I’m working for the right candidate in this race. However, I was also struck by the lack of care given by those meant to be her caregivers during one of the most important moments of her life, which almost cost her life.
When Black people, and specifically Black women, speak of their experiences it is not enough for allies to hear them. We must also act. That’s why Jenn needs your support in this race -- so that her voice is backed by an active community who doesn’t just believe in her, but shows up when it matters. Donate now.
The Elle piece was such a heartening reminder for me that as much as I believe in supporting all women, not all women’s stories and experiences look like mine. I know that if I have children one day, and there are complications, my cries will be heard and attended to – not questioned and disregarded as the norm.
The only way to change our world is to actively seek the change we wish to see. Jenn working behind the Governor’s desk will be a monumental step in making that change real. We need Black women in seats of power. If you agree, support Jenn’s campaign by chipping in today.
Thank you,
Kaylie

Jennifer Carroll Foy was born and raised in Petersburg. In 2017, she flipped a Republican district as a first-time candidate pregnant with twins. During her time as Delegate, Jennifer championed the ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment, helped expand Medicaid to 400,000 Virginians, and advocated for the Commonwealth’s most vulnerable communities.
She has a career of public service and it started long before 2017. As a public defender, Jennifer helped give a voice to the often voiceless — children, people suffering from addiction, those experiencing homelessness, those with mental illness, and the poor.
Now she’s running to be the first woman elected Governor of Virginia and serve as the first Black woman to be governor nationwide.
Help her make history. Donate now.
