Eyes on Xavier Becerra During HHS Secretary Confirmation Hearing

The Senate holds hearings this week on the nomination of Xavier Becerra to be President Biden’s Secretary of Health and Human Services. The job has never been more important.


On To the Point, the Commonwealth Fund’s Rachel Nuzum and David Blumenthal, M.D., review the major health care challenges that Becerra, if confirmed, will need to address:
-
addressing inequities in our health care system
-
extending health insurance coverage to 30 million uninsured Americans
-
creating a health disaster preparedness strategy
-
making health care more affordable.
Nuzum and Blumenthal say that during the confirmation hearings, Becerra has an opportunity to lay out his vision for achieving these critical goals.
