In the last week, one question keeps popping up that people keep asking me: "What can I do to help?"
Quickly, here are a few things you can do to help the overall cause and protect our democracy at every level:
1. Donate
Campaigns require dollars to fuel staff members, volunteer efforts and campaign supplies. Your dollars help us reach more people and change the tide.
Tomorrow is our end of quarter fundraising deadline, and I'm asking you to chip in what you can today to help me prepare for my own re-election campaign and help other candidates in 2020. I also encourage you to donate to your favorite candidates and organizations on the local and national levels. Every dollar counts.
2. Volunteer
In Connecticut, we have elections every year and in my own district there are many extremely qualified candidates running for every office from Mayor or First Selectman down to Board of Education and Planning and Zoning.
Take an hour or two, or whatever time you have, to get involved with a local campaign this year. Whether its making phone calls, canvassing, writing postcards or babysitting so other people can do the aforementioned activities. This prep and outreach now will help us as we prepare for 2020.
3. Talk to neighbors and friends
Politics may seem like all we talk about lately, but when you see that neighbor you haven't spoken to in a while, ask how they are doing. Reach out to friends and family members and have a civil discourse about current events. The more we can share our message and reach more people, the larger our grassroots efforts grows. It makes a difference.
Each of these things helps our cause and helps our country. Thank you for your time, your support and your efforts.
