Upcoming AYD Events

AYD Black Legacy Forum

Join us on Tuesday, February 23rd at 7pm via Zoom for our AYD Black Legacy Forum. In honor of Black History Month, this meeting will feature a forum on Black leadership with local community leaders and deal with Black legacy in Arlington and beyond.

The beginning of the meeting will have a candidate announcement from Jay Jones, a primary candidate for Virginia Attorney General, followed by the forum with guest speakers Virginia Black Caucus Executive Director Adele McClure and Arlington County School Board Chair Monique O’Grady. We hope to see you there!

Any appearances made by 2021 candidates are not endorsements. All candidates are welcome to ask AYD to speak at events. Have questions? Email our president, Matt Royer, at [email protected]

VAYD Northern Region Gubernatorial Forum: Featuring fmr. Delegate Jennifer Carroll Foy

Join us virtually on Thursday, February 25th at 5pm for VAYD's virtual forum with former Delegate Jennifer Carroll Foy. This meeting is designed for both newcomers and VAYD members in mind. Non-members are welcome! Carroll Foy represented Virginia’s 2nd House of Delegates district from 2018 to 2020, until she resigned to focus on her gubernatorial campaign. If elected, she would be the first female Governor of Virginia and the first African American female governor elected in the United States. You'll have an opportunity to hear Carroll Foy speak on her plan, experience, and background. There will also be an opportunity to ask your own questions at the end of the event. This conversation promises to be a good one, but space is limited. Sign up now to reserve your spot!

Questions? Email VAYD President Maureen Coffey at [email protected]

VAYD Convention Save the Date

Save the date! The Virginia Young Democrats’ second (and hopefully last!) virtual convention will be held the weekend of April 16th-18th. Further details to be announced!

Questions? Email VAYD President Maureen Coffey at [email protected]

VAYD Virtual Candidate Petitions Guide

The Virginia Young Democrats have reached out to each statewide campaign in order to aid in the signature process! Given the ongoing pandemic and mitigation requirements, the Virginia Department of Elections and the Attorney General’s office will allow virtual petition signatures to be collected.

Please download and complete the PDFs for each candidate. Send the PDF via email to the address specified by each campaign. Please contact VAYD President Maureen Coffey at [email protected] with any questions.

Vaccinate Virginia

Pre-register through Vaccinate Virginia

If you have not yet pre-registered, you should do so through Vaccinate Virginia, the new Virginia Department of Health system for pre-registration. If you pre-registered using the Arlington County system before February 13, do not complete a new pre-registration in the VDH system. Your information is being migrated into the state system, and your status will not be affected.

Help Pass HR 1: Our Chance to Transform Democracy

The For the People Act is a once-in-a-generation package of proven reforms that would:

  • Expand and protect voting rights and access to the ballot;
  • Put ordinary Americans ahead of Big Money donors;
  • End gerrymandering so that electoral districts are fairly drawn; and
  • Clean up government and hold elected officials to the highest ethical standards.

Email your Representative today to voice your support for the For People Act, and to ask that it remain a first priority of the new administration and Congress.
