I want to set the record straight -- there’s a common misconception that the majority of minimum wage workers are teenagers at part-time jobs who are looking to make some extra spending cash.
That couldn’t be further from the reality.
Let’s be clear about who would be impacted by an increase to the minimum wage:
*
More
than
half
of
minimum
wage
workers
are
adults
between
the
ages
of
25
and
54
.
*
There’s
a
larger
percentage
of
people
55
and
older
working
minimum
wage
jobs
than
teenagers.
*
More
than
half
of
minimum
wage
workers
work
full
time
.
*
Nearly
6
in
10
of
these
workers
are
women
.
*
More
than
a
quarter
have
children
.
These are the workers we’re talking about when we talk about raising the minimum wage.
I’m personally asking you to join me in supporting an increase to the minimum wage. Add your name today. [[link removed]]
You cannot work reasonable hours and support a family on the current minimum wage -- not in New Jersey and not in states all over the country.
That’s why I’m a proud original co-sponsor of a measure that would increase the minimum wage to $15 an hour and give a raise to tens of millions of American workers across the country.
No one should have to work two or three jobs to pay the bills and put food on the table. Minimum wage workers deserve a living wage and so do their families.
If you support raising the minimum wage for millions of Americans across the country, please add your name to mine today. [[link removed]]
