The Pace of COVID-19 Vaccinations Has Picked Up, But Progress Is Uneven

The United States is well on its way to achieving President Biden’s goal of 100 million COVID-19 vaccine doses administered by the end of April — and may even surpass it.


But the Commonwealth Fund’s David Radley and colleagues say progress has been uneven. On To the Point, they compare the pace of vaccination across the country and evaluate whether states are prioritizing populations at greatest risk for severe illness or death. Even though the virus continues to sicken and kill people of color disproportionately, in several of the states for which racial and ethnic data are available, Black and Latino people have been less likely to get vaccinated than white people.


As the authors note, some states appear to have prioritized speed over equity.
