From the Grand Canyon to the Olympic National Forest to the San Gabriel Mountains, our nation is home to many of the most stunning landscapes and diverse ecosystems.

And now, we have the opportunity to ensure that these special places receive permanent protections. That means they would no longer face current and recurring threats of mining, drilling and other destructive activity.

As early as this week, the U.S. House of Representatives will be voting on the Protecting America's Wilderness and Public Lands Act, which would safeguard more than 1 million acres of land for future generations.[1]

We know that the threats of leaving our special places unprotected are real and present. Under the Trump administration, rollbacks reopened the possibility of toxic uranium mining just 15 miles from the Grand Canyon.[2]

If passed, the Protecting America's Wilderness and Public Lands Act would permanently withdraw more than 1 million acres surrounding the Grand Canyon from new mining claims.[3] This will ensure that the area's watershed remains free of toxins from mining, wildlife's habitat is entact, and the air is clear of pollutants.

This legislation isn't only critical to safeguarding the Grand Canyon, but also other special places in Colorado, California and Washington. This includes old-growth forests in Northern California, several of Colorado's iconic peaks reaching above 14,000 feet, and 19 rivers and major tributaries in Washington.

This bill has bipartisan support, but we need your voice to ensure it receives all the votes it needs. Urge your U.S. representative to vote "yes" on Protecting America's Wilderness and Public Lands Act.
