Both Bandit and his elderly guardian were beaming when he was delivered back to her arms.

Not long before, a PETA fieldworker had picked up the tiny dog at his rural North Carolina home, transported him to a PETA mobile clinic for his life-changing neuter surgery, and returned him home—all free of charge.

Bandit is just one of the hundreds of dogs and cats our mobile clinics will spay or neuter this month, at little to no cost to their guardians—and this Spay Day, you have a unique opportunity to make a difference in the lives of hundreds more.

Bandit’s story might not have had such a happy ending without the help of our clinics. If he had impregnated just one dog, she (and her offspring) would have been able to produce some 67,000 puppies in just six years, many of whom would likely have ended up abandoned, chained or penned in lonely backyards to be used as living burglar alarms or surrendered to already overburdened animal shelters.

Spaying and neutering is the single most effective way to prevent such misery, and with every sterilization surgery our clinics perform, we do more to stop this crisis and help animals.

Each one of PETA’s custom-built mobile clinics is equipped to spay or neuter as many as 30 animals like Bandit in a single day, and together, they have helped more than 12,500 dogs and cats in the last year alone.
