Thanks to the incredible effort of organizers across the country, the Democratic party maintained control of the House, defeated Donald Trump, and flipped the Senate too.
Now, Congressional Democrats have a mandate to pass stimulus checks, a $15 minimum wage, a new Voting Rights Act, action on climate change and expanding access to health care. But Mitch McConnell will do anything he can to stop this popular, much needed legislation.
And thanks to double standards and the filibuster, McConnell can remain the grim reaper of the Senate even with just minority power.
This isn't how our democracy is supposed to work. If McConnell won’t follow the intent of the rules of our system, then we have to change those rules. We’re joining a progressive coalition calling for the end of the filibuster. Will you join us?

Here’s a reality that few have come to reckon with: After McConnell has dedicated his political power towards stacking the federal judiciary with conservative accolades and forcing through conservative legislation without compromise, why would he turn back?
What makes things worse is that Republicans have already broken the filibuster – but only in their favor. Since a rule change in 2001, Republicans have been able to cut taxes or defund programs with a simple majority vote. But Democrats need 60 votes in order to expand health care or tackle climate change? That’s absurd.
The filibuster didn’t stop Donald Trump from passing a massively regressive tax cut for the top 1%, nor did it stop McConnell from a vote on destroying Obamacare (which would have passed with a simple majority). We can’t let it stop critical policies that would better the lives of working Americans either.
