John,
It’s been one month since Joe Biden was sworn in as President―yet Trumpists are still in charge of the Social Security Administration.
Social Security Commissioner Andrew Saul, along with Deputy Commissioners David Black and Mark Warshawsky, promoted deadly policies to close Social Security offices, make it harder for people to access their earned benefits, and make it easier to wrongly strip people of their Social Security disability benefits.
Warshawsky, who has been called the Stephen Miller of Social Security,[1] resigned on January 20th. But Saul and Black have stubbornly clung to power. Joe Biden, who ran on a promise to protect and expand Social Security, hasn’t fired them yet.
Senator Sherrod Brown, the new chair of the Senate Subcommittee on Social Security, gets it. In his first statement as chair, he demanded that they be replaced, saying:
"As agents of the Trump Social Security agenda, they cut the benefits that hardworking Americans have earned, attacked the Social Security Administration's employees, denied beneficiaries due process, and needlessly increased disability reviews during the Covid-19 pandemic. No one has been safe from their path of destruction.”
Social Security Works has been raising the alarm about Saul and Black since they were first appointed―and we’re going to keep pushing until they’re out of power! Chip in $7 to our Clean House Fund today and save Social Security from Trump’s lackeys!
Thanks,
