John, at DFA, we’re not just celebrating Black History Month;
we’re helping to make Black history by supporting Maya Wiley for New York
City Mayor.

Maya, if elected, would be the first woman, of any race, to ever be mayor
of NYC. She’ll also bring her experience as a civil rights warrior, former
legal counsel to Mayor Bill de Blasio, and MSNBC analyst to deliver
progressive results that will lead New Yorkers out of the pandemic.

We were the first national organization to endorse Maya, but we definitely
won’t be the last. On Friday, the powerful Local 1199 of the Service
Employees International Union announced their endorsement, adding more
momentum to the growing coalition we need to win.

But endorsements alone won’t win this race, we need to deliver! Please
contribute right now to fuel the campaign.

As you may have noticed, DFA’s first 9 endorsements of the 2021 election
cycle are all progressive Black candidates – and all but one have been
Black women. Out of those 8 women, all but one will be the first Black
woman elected to their respective seats.

Some, like Maya, would be the first woman ever. Let that sink in.

That is not by accident.

Black women have been thanked a lot over the last few months for saving
our democracy over and over again, but we need to do more than just say
thank you. We need to make sure that when powerful progressive Black women
run, progressives are there for them.

That’s why I joined an amazing coalition of Black women leaders for Maya
Wiley. Check out the video we made supporting Maya, and then please split
a donation between DFA and her campaign to win right now.

Maya is exactly the kind of leader New York City needs. But this is going
to be an uphill fight.

Many of Maya’s opponents are backed by some of America’s biggest corporate
interests and Wall Street banks. She’s counting on overwhelming grassroots
support to win.

So please, pitch in whatever you can to stand with Black women and help us
continue to make history.
