February is Black History Month, and as we celebrate this month, I’ve been thinking about my former colleague, Congressman John Lewis.
In Congress and as a civil rights leader who led marchers over the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama in 1965, Congressman Lewis dedicated his life to fighting for voting rights, equality, and justice.
Congressman Lewis’ fight is now our fight and there is much work to be done to build a more perfect union.
JOIN OUR CALL FOR VOTING RIGHTS, JUSTICE, AND EQUALITY → [[link removed]]
We must heed the calls for racial equity and lead with action in Congress.
We must protect voting rights for all Americans and combat the undemocratic attempts to suppress votes, particularly the votes of people of color.
We must listen to the Americans who peacefully protested this summer in response to racial injustice and police brutality and respond with renewed efforts to combat systemic racism in our country.
We must expand opportunity across the board -- that means equal access to health care, equal education opportunities for students, and equal job opportunities and fair wages no matter who you are or what you look like.
We all have a role to play in this fight. That’s why this Black History Month I’m asking you to step up: Will you add your name and join our call to protect voting rights and demand justice and equality for all Americans? [[link removed]]
Thank you and take care,
Mikie
