The past few days have been difficult here in our home state of Texas. Millions have been without power or water all week (including yours truly). Now the snow has melted and the cleanup begins.
But time spent in the cold was made colder still by the loss of Rush Limbaugh. His steady presence was a source of assurance; a familiar voice giving wise insight, year upon year. He will be sorely missed.
It was a tough week all the way around.
On the election integrity front there were several bright spots, including the Georgia legislature’s vote to improve mail-in ballot security and epic comments made by Florida’s Governor Ron DeSantis who spoke boldly about his commitment to transparency and accountability in election processes.
And friends, that’s where I’ll end this week’s comments. There’s much more I could write, but it’ll keep.
Except for this ... staying connected matters. You matter - to me, to True the Vote, and to the amazing country we share. Our best days are ahead.
Ever Onward,
Georgia's Elections Omnibus
This week, legislation proposed by Georgia Republicans moved forward in both the state house and senate. In both sets of sweeping proposals, among the issues addressed were voter ID requirements and so-called "at will" absentee voting.
In the Senate, SB71 would require that a voter provide a reason for requesting an absentee ballot. This is an obviously important way to protect the integrity of the process and prevent fraud.
In the House, HB 531 would also limit conditions under which a voter could request an absentee ballot, and would additionally require a photo ID in order to obtain one.
The wide-ranging proposed legislation in Georgia represents the voice of the people, and their strong desire after the chaos of the last months of the 2020 election, to return to confidence and security in the vote.
True the Vote will keep an eye on this and all voter-related legislation throughout the coming months, and there promises to be a great deal.
Working Together For Accountability, Integrity, And Fairness
