Week 6: New Legislation & Updates

ECONOMY & TAXATION
New Legislation: Representative Steven Harris has introduced a bill, House Bill 199, to lower the state income tax and sales tax. This would create ease on low-income families as it repeals the grocery tax credit and would create $284,000,000 in total tax relief. This bill is currently in the House Revenue and Taxation Committee.

Update: House Bill 140 was passed out of committee for a second reading this week. The bill is sponsored by Representative Priscilla Giddings. This bill would prohibit any government entity in Idaho from contracting with a company that discriminates against their employees based on vaccination status.

Update: Senate Bill 1084 was read for a second time and filed for a third reading this week. This bill would set up a regular review of required licensing for jobs and occupations to evaluate if any licensing is unnecessary and can be eliminated. This bill is sponsored by Senators Lori Den Hartog and Todd M. Lakey, and Representative Gayann De Mordaunt...

Urgent Call to Protect Religious Liberty:

On Thursday this week, the Equality Act (HR 5) was introduced in the Federal House of Representatives. This bill is a serious imminent threat to religious rights. If signed into law, this proposed legislation would require that an individual or business cannot choose to abstain from serving someone who identifies as homosexual or transgender even if providing the service violates their religious conscience. In addition to stealing religious rights, this bill would also require that girls' locker rooms be open to males that identify as females, mandate insurance companies offer "gender transitions" and much more. This bill accomplishes these changes by adding sexual orientation and gender identity to the list of protected traits under federal law (which currently includes sex, race, age, skin color, and religion) and changing other federal civil rights laws. This bill would radically change society's concept of binary genders and the good they bring into this world.

We highly encourage you to contact your federal representatives and share your thoughts on the Equality Act (HR 5).
