Statehood is a racial justice issue, and it’s also a matter of pure representation and democracy

Indivisibles,

Big news -- this week, we launched a whole new slate of ads across platforms to mobilize people and build pressure on members of Congress for one of our biggest democracy reform priorities: D.C. statehood! Read on below for all the gritty details, but if all you need to know is that we’ve budgeted $85,000 for this ad campaign and we need your help to fund all our work, click here to make a $10 donation to Indivisible.

D.C. statehood is a crucial part of remaking our democracy for the people. The 700,000 residents of D.C. -- a majority of whom are people of color -- deserve just as much of a voice as anyone else, and currently, they don’t have it. After a long and disgraceful history of Congress denying rights to Black D.C. residents, there’s no denying that statehood is a racial justice issue. It’s also a matter of pure representation and democracy, helping wrest control of the Senate out from an increasingly small minority and rebalance power toward the people.

That’s why it’s such a big part of our plan to save democracy. And, with help from partners across the movement, we’ve identified this as a place where Indivisibles can have a huge impact. So we’re running ads to generate phone calls into congressional offices so members of Congress hear their constituents demanding swift action on H.R. 51/S. 51 (the D.C. statehood bills in the House and Senate).

We’re planning to spend $85,000 to put video and audio ads on several digital platforms to drive calls and get the word out about D.C. statehood. We need to get H.R. 51/S. 51 on the legislative agenda soon, so we’re running this campaign over just a few short weeks. And we need your help to do it.

Grassroots funding is what makes our work possible. So today, we’re asking you to chip in to support our work -- make a $10 donation to Indivisible to fund our work on D.C. statehood, democracy reform, and all our other top priorities.

Indivisible Team
