Unshakeable Freedom From Doubt

Once we have taken the momentous leap of awakening beyond the personal – dropped the baggage of our karma and liberated ourselves from the prison of ego – an almost superhuman confidence and freedom from doubt can seem to fall upon us like grace, and begin expressing itself through our body, mind and personality.

This is a kind of superpower that the higher state of awakened consciousness can confer, a condition of being in which it seems that anything is possible. We experience a wild and uninhibited freedom – a fully autonomous zone where nothing and no one can stand in our way.

Unless one is capable of embracing and embodying a state of self-confidence that is so absolutely unconfined – in other words, not mediated by any doubt – one is never going to be granted the superpowers of radical spirit at its most muscular and potent.

At its very best, the nature of spirit unbound is an unmitigated force for good; a genuine superpower that gives one access to greater cognition, creativity, innovation, drive and productivity. It also enables an extraordinary ability to articulate the deeper truths of enlightenment in original and unexpected ways.

On the other hand, one must recognise that this position is inherently dangerous. The perils of such raw power are all-too-obvious, and deadly traps await the unwary. We must realise the stark truth that the Evolutionary Impulse has no moral compass, and that no human vehicle is perfect – throughout history, unpreparedness for this reality has caught both students and teachers off guard.

Healthy self-reflection and facing into our dark shadows is profoundly important and necessary. But if one truly wants to embrace radical transformation, one also has to be prepared to fully embrace the doubtless state with all its gifts, and all its perils – the ability to hold this apparent paradox without contradiction, and with deep humility, may help us to avoid some of those obvious traps.

In this talk, Andrew Cohen looks at how the raw energy of the Evolutionary Impulse expresses itself through the superpower of absolute self-confidence and unshakeable freedom from doubt. He explores the sometimes incendiary interplay between this apparent superpower and the human vehicle with all its imperfections and fragility.
