I am Sharilyn Mauro, the wife of Eddie Mauro Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate. One of the reasons that Eddie is running for U.S. Senate is to make sure our local districts have the resources they need and that they have a dedicated fighter for them in D.C.  

The first ten years of our marriage Eddie was both a teacher and a coach, in fact, he coached for over 20 years while in the classroom and after. It was a job he loved, and I witnessed first hand his dedication to his kids, both those in the classroom and those on the field.  

Deciding to step away from the classroom was one of the hardest things Eddie ever had to do. But we had young children and unfortunately low teacher pay, like today, it was tough to meet our obligations. I firmly believe all students have the right to the same educational opportunities, quality resources, and activities no matter where a child lives. We see that today, with teachers who work two or three jobs in addition to their work in the classroom, this is wrong. As our U.S. Senator Eddie will work to make sure those educating our children are paid a salary that values their dedication to our children.  

Spending ten years in the classroom is where Eddie cultivated his passion for teaching and working with kids. After leaving the classroom, he continued his work in helping others differently—being a restless community organizer and the strong voice advocating for the most vulnerable people in our state and beyond.

Eddie understands the influence educators can make in shaping young people’s lives. That is why Eddie sees the most important lesson he taught was to share with students that they have a responsibility to give back outside the classroom.
