John -- Hi!
It's been a while since I've last updated you.
I'm coming off a busy few weeks, including serving as a member
of the House prosecution team in the second impeachment trial of
former President Trump.
As the other impeachment managers and I put together our case
against Trump, I was reminded of just how dangerous January 6
really was -- and just how much worse it could have been if not
for the heroics of Capitol Police like Officer Eugene Goodman.
We laid out a clear and comprehensive case against the former
President. But with the deck stacked against us, we were faced
with a nearly insurmountable task. And to no surprise, the GOP's
minority mostly remained true to Donald Trump and let him walk
free of consequences.
But I learned something last week: We're going to have to reach
across the aisle to move forward. It's that type of thinking that
helped us convince seven Republican Senators to convict the
former President.
As for the other 43 Senators who showed an utter lack of
courage when faced with a chance to show the country that no one
is above the law? Our work to hold them accountable continues.
We will not forget those who ensured justice would not be
served to those who died because of the insurrection, especially
the Senators who themselves helped incite the attack at the
Capitol.
If you're willing to recommit to joining me in that fight, I
hope you'll chip in a contribution today to help us keep up the
fight for our democracy. It's going to take all of us to protect
our country from those out to destroy it.
