Friend,
This month is Black History Month and I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the history and future for Black Americans.
Last year, we lost an American hero, John Lewis, an icon of the civil rights movement who committed his life to creating a better future.
As a young man, he was a civil rights leader. He marched across the Edmund Pettus Bridge for freedom and voting rights, where he was beaten by police to within an inch of his life. As a Member of Congress, he fought every day to defend voting rights and keep our country moving forward.
It was the honor of my lifetime to serve alongside John Lewis in the House of Representatives.
The legacy of leaders like John Lewis is immense, but we have a lot of work to do to make our country truly equitable.
The need for progress came into stark relief last year, as we learned about police officers killing George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and more unarmed Black Americans. Across the country, we demanded justice, and we stated “Black Lives Matter.”
I want you to know that I am committed to fighting inequality. In Congress, I was proud to support the Justice in Policing Act, and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. And I will keep working every day in Congress towards real equality.
You can take action today by supporting the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, or find your local NAACP unit here.

Susan Wild represents Pennsylvania's 7th District in Congress. She believes we can grow overall economic prosperity while still caring for the vulnerable members of our community. And she knows, now more than ever, it's working-class families that deserve a break in this economy — not big city billionaires and wealthy corporations.
But she needs your support today -- her campaign runs on grassroots donations since she's not taking a dime of corporate PAC money. If you can, consider giving anything you can to her campaign today. >>
