Extreme winter weather hit a wide swath of the country this week, slamming
the Pacific Northwest with heavy snow and ice and plunging the South into
a deadly frigid weather pattern.
Texas was hit particularly hard. Power outages left more than four million
households across the state without heat, water, and in many cases, food.
Broken pipes stressed by below-freezing temperatures led to flooding and
damage that will take months to repair. Officials say that the state's
power grid was minutes and possibly seconds away from "total failure."
Despite what some Texas Republicans say, "frozen wind turbines" and the
Green New Deal did not cause these power outages. Deregulation, failing
infrastructure, and our over-reliance on fossil fuels that warm the planet
did.
The cost of inaction is far greater than the cost of bold climate action.

Whether it's historic winter storms like we saw this week or wildfires on
the West Coast, the destructive effects of climate change are all around
us — and they're only going to get worse.
That's why, as chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, Pramila is
working hard on the People's Agenda in the new session of Congress. It
invests in a bold green infrastructure package, dramatically curtails air,
water, and climate pollution, and builds a renewable energy economy that
will transition our country away from dirty fossil fuels. And she's also
working on a transformative Green New Deal that would continue this urgent
work and ensure environmental justice is at the core of what we do.

of $5
or more to our campaign today and help grow a movement big enough to
confront this climate crisis once and for all.
In solidarity,
Team Jayapal
