Dear John

Yesterday, I had the distinct pleasure and honor of testifying before the House Ways and Means Subcommittee on Oversight about the VITA program and all the great work that you, our partners, have done to continue to deliver free tax preparation services, even during the pandemic. Even now, it is amazing to learn about all the innovative approaches you are undertaking to help low-income households safely and securely file their taxes for free this year.

Each filing season comes with its own unique obstacles. This filing season will be particularly challenging with the introduction of the Recovery Rebate Credit, EITC lookback and additional changes to the tax laws. TON will be here every step of the way to provide relevant updates via this newsletter and the TaxRoundtable listserv.

Our hearts go out to our partners across the country who have experienced the devastating effects of the winter storms this week. Please stay safe, and know that this, too, shall pass.

Many Happy Returns!

Rebecca M. Thompson, Director, Field Engagement & TON

“Obstacles don’t have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don’t turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it or work around it.”
– Michael Jordan
