Groundbreaking oral history project documents Black-Palestinian solidarity Dear Supporter, Late last year, I had the pleasure of joining the AMP team for a short-term project to build upon the long-standing tradition of Black-Palestinian solidarity. After last year’s killing of George Floyd and the much-needed national reckoning with racial injustice and white supremacy which has been sparked by his death, AMP decided to better educate itself and its supporters about anti-Black racism, convening a series of powerful monthly webinars entitled #LetsTalkBLM. Building on this webinar series, I undertook an oral history project of Black and Palestinian activists and allies to better document the long-standing history of solidarity between the two communities and how they have supported each others’ struggles. As part of AMP’s commitment to celebrating Black History Month, I’m so excited to present the series Yalla Y’all: From the Frontlines of Black-Palestinian Solidarity, featuring interviews with Mariam El-Khatib, Prof. Michael Fischbach, Bill Fletcher, Jr., Rev. Graylan Hagler, Lara Kiswani, Prof. Alex Lubin, Rev. Joi Orr, and Sandra Tamari. And be sure to RSVP and join me for the world-premier of the first episode with Prof. Alex Lubin, author of Geographies of Liberation: The Making of an Afro-Arab Political Imaginary. We’ll be airing the first episode on Facebook and YouTube on Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at 7:00 PM Eastern. Through this oral history project, I learned so much about the history of Black-Palestinian solidarity, heard such inspiring stories about how people became activists and what sustains their work, and gained a deeper understanding of the path forward for the liberation of oppressed peoples. I know that you will too, and I invite you to watch all of the interviews as we begin to roll them out next week. Don't forget to share this on your social media as well.
