John -- As Texans were hit with one of the worst weather-related catastrophes in their history, what did their leaders do? 

Gov. Greg Abbott took time at the height of the crisis to spout blatant lies about the Green New Deal on Fox News. Sen. Ted Cruz jetted off to Cancun with his family to escape the bad weather.

Sure, who wouldn’t rather take off to the beach when the weather gets bad? But real leaders? They stay and lead. 

Enter AOC. What did she do while millions were freezing? She reached out to her network and raised over $1 Million dollars to provide relief to the people of Texas. 

The GOP -- and even some Democrats in Texas -- love to beat up on AOC, but did that stop her?  

Not even a little.

John, we need a lot more AOCs and far fewer Teds in Congress. This is why we advocate for true representation. We can have better representatives and we can expect more from them. 

When we elect people who understand what it’s like to struggle through a disaster, we are electing someone who is in touch with the realities of life for millions of people in this country.  

And maybe, just maybe, we can get to a point in this country where we aren’t crowdsourcing relief efforts. 

People are suffering in Texas right now due to a failure of leadership. This is a problem we can solve.
