The Alabama House of Representatives will vote Tuesday on two bills to improve the state’s criminal justice system, HB 23 and HB 73, and we need your help to keep these bills moving forward. Your representative could be the deciding vote on whether these improvements pass the House early next week.

Please email your representative before Tuesday and ask them to vote YES on these Arise-supported bills.

HB 23, sponsored by Rep. Jim Hill, R-Springville, would allow some people who were sentenced under the state’s unfair, overly punitive Habitual Felony Offender Act to apply for resentencing under current sentencing guidelines. This change to outdated, harmful incarceration practices could allow many Alabamians to re-enter society and rebuild their lives.

HB 73, also sponsored by Hill, would create community corrections programs for each judicial circuit. Community corrections programs allow people to serve sentences in their communities. This approach reduces disruption to people’s lives and allows them to stay better connected with support structures.

Click here to email your representative TODAY and ask them to support HB 23 and HB 73 on Tuesday.
