Mardi Gras has lifted and renewed my spirits. We didn't have a normal carnival season, but we celebrated nevertheless. This Mardi Gras reminded us what this season is all about: celebrating each other and our community. In spite of the cold and COVID we found joy together this year.
Just yesterday, my spirits were lifted again as we got the good news that COVID-19 vaccine eligibility is being expanded to include teachers and people between the ages of 55 to 64 who have certain health conditions. Remember, you can call our city's nonemergency line, 311, or go to ready.nola.gov/getvaccine to schedule a vaccine appointment if you're eligible.
I also got a chance yesterday to spend some time with my daughter, RayAnn, as we watched our country make history when NASA's newest rover, Perseverance, landed on Mars. It was wonderful to be reminded of the great things our country can do when we put our minds to it.
From Mardi Gras to Mars to more vaccines, things are looking up. Before you know it, we'll put this pandemic behind us and move on to bigger and better things. I'm excited for the year ahead, including my campaign for another four years as your mayor.
If you're feeling the hope I'm feeling, pitch in to my campaign and let's make our hopes reality.
