As Democrats in the state legislature launch oversight hearings into Governor Baker’s chaotic vaccination “plan,” Baker owes it to all of us to testify before the committee and take responsibility for his failed vaccine rollout.
Here’s the thing: Charlie Baker had a year to develop a vaccination plan. And Massachusetts has some of the brightest medical minds in the world. There’s no excuse for our Commonwealth to be lagging so far behind--we knew this was coming.
But chronic technical problems plague Baker’s vaccination sign-up websites and hotline. Disturbing inequities persist in vaccinations by race and ethnicity. Baker’s last minute prioritization of mass vaccination sites over trusted hospitals and clinics has left seniors and folks with disabilities with canceled appointments.
Because of Baker’s failures, thousands of appointments have gone unfilled and thousands of doses have been thrown away. Our most vulnerable residents go another day unprotected from COVID-19. A quick and equitable recovery is delayed further.
