Governor DeWine Appoints Fisher to Ashtabula County Court

(COLUMBUS, Ohio)Ohio Governor Mike DeWine today announced the appointment of Michelle Fisher to the Ashtabula County Court.

Fisher, of Orwell, will assume office on March 1, 2021, and will be replacing Judge David Schroeder, who was elected to the Ashtabula Court of Common Pleas. Fisher's appointed term to the Western County Court will expire on December 31, 2022. Shewill need to run for election in November 2022 for a full term commencing January 1, 2023.

Fisher has served as a magistrate in the Ashtabula County Court of Common Pleas since 2018. Throughout her tenure, she has conducted a wide variety of hearings and managed a docket of hundreds of civil cases each year. Fisher was a member of the Drug Court Specialized Docket Team, in which she helped conduct drug court status hearings and develop innovative new procedures.

Before working in the public sector, Fisher was the president of the her own law firm, representing clients in many areas, including criminal, family and business matters. Right out of law school, she gained experience as a law clerk and associate attorney in the local community.

Fisher holds a Juris Doctor from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law, where she became a recipient of the Sidney A. Levine Award for Best Paper in a Legal Writing Course and the William K. Gardner Award for Outstanding Student in Civil Procedure. Fisher earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from Case Western Reserve University.

Fisher has served as a board member for Ashtabula's Community Counseling Center and is a 2018 graduate of Ashtabula County LEADERship.
