Next week we must tell the Public Service Commission to DENY the proposed license (ownership) transfer of Indian Point from Entergy to Holtec!

Time is short, but we know what to do.

What:  We must speak out! On February 23, the Public Service Commission (PSC) will hold two virtual public hearings, one at 1pm and the other at 6pm. If at all possible, please sign up to speak at one of the hearings. In order to speak at a hearing, you must sign up by 6pm on Monday, February 22 for the Feb 23 Public Hearing at 1pm or the Feb 23 Public Hearing at 6pm. Testimonies are usually limited to 2 or 3 minutes. Talking points are found in the online sample comments on our website. We hope you will also submit an online comment and circulate the link throughout your networks. The deadline for online comments is Thursday, February 25.

Why:  New Yorkers deserve better than Holtec! Entergy (current owner) is asking the PSC to approve the transfer of Indian Point Nuclear Plant and the associated $1.6 billion decommissioning trust fund to a joint venture of Holtec International and SNC-Lavalin (henceforth Holtec). Holtec has been cited for malfeasance, safety violations, financial misdealings, and corruption. This track record should disqualify Holtec from obtaining the licence to decommission Indian Point and gaining control of the $1.6 billion Decommissioning Trust Fund. Many organizations that follow nuclear industry issues believe Holtec is unfit to manage Indian Point and the trust fund because Holtec has no experience decommissioning nuclear power plants and is likely to cut corners to maximize its profits as shown by its long history of lies, bribes and risk-taking.

The PSC must exert their jurisdiction over this matter and protect New Yorkers. We need decommissioning that uses best practices.

Who:  All of us! Please sign up by 6pm Monday, Feb 22 to testify at the 1pm hearing or the 6pm hearing held via WebEx Tuesday, Feb 23.

And please take a moment now
to familiarize yourself with the issue and submit your online comments. This may be our final chance to tell the PSC to DENY this transfer and protect New York.

Thank you for your prompt attention to this urgent issue. We appreciate every testimony and every comment!
