Governor DeWine Appoints Marks to Lucas County Court of Common Pleas
(COLUMBUS, Ohio)?Ohio Governor Mike DeWine today announced the appointment of Eric Allen Marks to the Lucas County Court of Common Pleas, General Division.
Marks, of Toledo, will assume office on March 1, 2021, and will be replacing Judge Myron Duhart, who was elected to the Ohio Sixth District Court of Appeals. Marks must run for election in November 2022 to retain the seat and complete the unexpired term ending December 31, 2024.?
After taking the bar, Marks opened a general practice in 2005 focused on criminal defense, family law, and appellate practice. Since 2011, he has also worked part-time as an Assistant Public Defender for the Toledo Legal Aid Society, and is currently assigned to the felony division. Marks has directly handled over 1,000 criminal cases and more than 60 direct appeals in various fields of law. ?
Marks holds a Juris Doctor from The University of Toledo College of Law. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from Brigham Young University and an Associate of Arts from The Ohio State University. During law school, Marks was an extern for Judge Patrick J. Foley in the Lucas County Court of Common Pleas, as well as Chief Judge James G. Carr of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio. ?
Marks is an active member of the Toledo Bar Association, having served on various committees and recently chairing the Court of Appeals Committee. He is a member of the Lucas County Bar Association, Maumee Valley Criminal Defense Lawyer's Association, and a prior member of the Ohio State Bar Association. As an Eagle Scout, Marks has volunteered with the Boy Scouts of America for over 20 years.?
