Friend,
The United States is the wealthiest country in the world, yet we have the highest mortality rate for women giving birth in the developing world -- and Black mothers suffer disproportionately, dying at 3 to 4 times the rate of White mothers.
This is unacceptable. That’s why I am proudly joining efforts in the House, led by Congresswoman Lauren Underwood, to change these disparities by passing comprehensive legislation to address the disparities Black mothers face when giving birth.

Black mothers face structural racism that leads to unequal access to health care and implicit biases from health care providers that cause pregnancy complications to go undiagnosed -- too often with fatal results.
The Black Maternal Health Momnibus Act aims to address these high mortality rates by funding community organizations and local governments working on these issues while training health care workers on bias. It will also combat health disparities that lead to maternal mortality by investing in transportation, nutrition, and housing.
It’s time to invest in real, data-driven solutions to the mortality rates of Black parents. I hope you’ll join me by adding your name today.
Thank you,
Sara
