Hi friend,
Mitch McConnell really thinks racism is over.
When asked whether he supports a study on reparations, McConnell told the Washington Post that he thinks the U.S. did enough “by fighting a Civil War, by passing landmark civil rights legislation,” and that we no longer need to think about remedying the harm slavery caused just because we elected a Black president.
The legacy and impact of slavery and systemic racism are far from over. Countless Black Americans, like George Floyd and Breonna Taylor, are unjustly murdered every year just because of the color of their skin. White supremacists holding the Confederate flag ransacked the Capitol building.
Last summer, we stood up for Black lives. In November, we elected the most diverse Congress in history and elected the first Black and Asian Vice President. Now, we're working to ensure our government makes racial justice a priority.
But the GOP is sticking to their decades-old playbook of pandering to their white supremacist base -- and with a bill to create a reparations commission coming to the House floor, Republicans like Mitch McConnell are putting up a fight against this crucial step towards equity.
That's why we're asking supporters like you:
Do you agree with Mitch McConnell?
Thank you for all you do in the movement for justice.
